The devastating floods and landslides that struck Rasuwa District have resulted in immense human and infrastructural loss, disrupting lives, livelihoods, and the country’s northern trade gateway.
In response, both the Nepal Automobile Importers and Manufacturers Association (NAIMA) and the NADA Automobiles Association of Nepal (NADA)have issued separate statements expressing deep sorrow and urging urgent action from the government.
NAIMA, in its statement, conveyed its heartfelt condolences to the families affected by the disaster, acknowledging that the floods have not only swept away homes and businesses but also caused a significant breakdown in Nepal’s economic supply chain.
With over 60% of Nepal’s automobile imports coming through northern border points, the complete destruction of the Timure Bridge at Rasuwagadhi has halted the movement of goods cleared from Chinese customs. NAIMA emphasized the urgency of prioritizing rescue, relief, and reconstruction and reaffirmed its readiness to contribute, particularly in housing rehabilitation.
NADA echoed similar concerns, emphasizing the strategic importance of the Rasuwagadhi border, which now lies paralyzed. The association noted that hundreds of trucks remain stranded, and the flow of goods has come to a standstill—posing severe challenges as major festivals approach. NADA called on the government and relevant stakeholders to expedite the restoration of trade infrastructure and expressed its solidarity with all those affected.
Both NAIMA and NADA recognize that the Rasuwa disaster is not just a regional emergency—it has national implications, exposing the fragility of Nepal’s trade infrastructure and the urgent need for coordinated action. They jointly emphasize the importance of swift recovery, support for the affected, and rebuilding efforts to restore connectivity and resilience.
